아인슈타인의 명언 20선
알베르트 아인슈타인은 우리가 살아가는 데 귀감이 될만한 주옥같은 명언을 많이 남겼다. 학문에 관한 것만이 아니라 인생에 관한 그의 명언 중에는 짧지만 깊은 의미를 담은 것들이 많다. 이 가운데 필자 생각에 누구에게나 교훈이 될만 한 명언 20개를 선정해 보았다. 아인슈타인이 여러 분야에서 남긴 의미 있는 수많은 말들에 관심이 있는 사람은 "아인슈타인이 말합니다"(2015, 에이도스)라는 책을 참조하기 바란다. 이 책에는 가족, 인류, 인생, 음악, 과학, 종교 등 여러 분야에서 그가 남긴 약 1,600개의 어록이 수록되어 있다. 가히 그의 어록의 집대성이라 할 만하다.
• The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulate the creative mind.
(평온한 삶이 가져다주는 단조로움과 고독은 창조적인 마음을 자극한다.)
• To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and makes real advance in science.
(새로운 물음과 가능성을 제기하는 것, 그리고 오래된 문제를 새로운 관점으로 바라보는 것은 창조적 상상력을 필요로 하며 과학에서의 실질적인 진보를 만들어낸다.)
• Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not
to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence.
(과거에서 배우고 현재를 살며 미래에 희망을 가져라. 중요한 것은 결코 질문을 멈추지 않는 것이다. 호기심은 그 자체로 존재할 이유를 가지고 있다.)
• The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible.
(세상에 대해 가장 이해하기 어려운 것은 세상을 이해할 수 있다는 것이다.)
• There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is miracle.
The other is as though everything is miracle.
(인생을 살아가는 데는 오직 두 가지 방법밖에 없다. 하나는 아무것도 기적이 아닌 것처럼, 다른 하나는 모든 것이 기적인 것처럼 살아가는 것이다.)

• Man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education and
social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a
poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

• The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life,
of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend
a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.

• Let us not forget that knowledge and skills alone cannot lead humanity to a happy
and dignified life......I claim credit for nothing. Everything is determined, the beginning
as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for the
insects as well as for the stars, human beings, vegetables or cosmic dust, we all
dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper.
